Bulgaria's Interior Ministry, in collaboration with the National Tourism Board
compiled a workgroup that has to prepare the draft law. It is expected to be
ready in several months.
"Such a step is not justified as only 12% of the Bulgarian men pay for getting
sexual services. Except, prostitution's legalization would not reduce the
number of girls' traffic," Georgiev added.
In 2006 the Investigation Services have worked on about 80 cases connected to
the traffic of people. 22 of them have been finished.
"This is the greatest amount of trials, which we have worked on. It is bigger
even than drug traffic ones," Rumen Georgiev explained.
The press conference joined also the Deputy Foreign Minister Gergana
Grancharova, who said Bulgarian diplomats have to respond immediately to
signals for such crimes.
Bulgaria becomes more often a final destination for people's traffic victims
since country's accession to the EU and NATO, Minister Grancharova concluded.
